This morning we had the "Grow-Breaking" Ceremony for our Vermont School Garden! The whole school met outside, along with parents. Because we are using the harvest from our garden to help support the Empowering Children and Youths School in Sierra Leone, Africa, we even skyped them into the ceremony! Every class planted a wish stick with a wish that we have for the school. The whole school sang "Let it Grow" from the movie The Lorax. Mr. Knepp did the ceremonial dig and planted a seed. The fourth graders read a poem, and then the school in Sierra Leone sang a song that they wrote to thank us! It was a great ceremony! Below you can see pictures from today and watch an amazing video Mrs. Overn put together that chronicles the planning and creation of our garden this year. Watch for our class!

This morning we saw a production from Mad Cap Puppet Theatre! It was called "The Cinderella Files," and retold the stories "Diamonds and Toads" and "The Crocodile's Baby" with a special twist, adding characters or telling the story from a different character's perspective. We enjoyed it very much, including the special skits involving Mrs. Kroger and two of our very own Second Graders! Be sure to comment and answer our questions at the bottom--we can't to read your comments! What is your favorite fairy tale?
If you could rewrite Cinderella by either adding characters or writing it from a different character's point of view instead of Cinderella, how would your story go? This was the busiest week we have had this year, jam-packed with activities and events! We started off the week with an assembly about Indian dance and culture, and we even got to participate in some dances! One highlight was when Ms. Young was dressed in a sari. On Tuesday, we watched the Third Grade music concert, and they did a great job! On Wednesday we had the Author visit from Dr. Paul Michael Mullen. Finally, on Friday, we had our Cultural Heritage Parade!! Thank you to all who came out to see our awesome floats!! Here are some pictures from the week! Mr. Softee visited Vermont School on Monday! As a reward for doing a great job on our school fundraiser, every student was treated with an ice cream cone or popsicle during lunch recess. What a great treat! Mrs. Overn captured a few pictures of the visit!
Today was the first annual International Walk to School Day in Wyoming! Along with schools across the country in October, hundreds of Wyoming students gathered to walk to school together and walk the Cowboy Trail once they reached Vermont! I wasn't able to catch everyone, but I did get a few pictures from this morning! There was lots of cheers and Cowboy chants, and it was so much fun! Read more about International Walk to School Day at www.iwalktoschool.org.
Today was our first time to "Read the Morning Away," and we had a blast! I'm not sure I've ever seen students show up to school so excited to READ! Thank you also to LL and JH for bringing special snacks for us to share. I heard several times already that today was "the best day ever." :) Here are some photos of Read the Morning Away!
